Art and technology event revolutionary Aram Bartholl has installed a USB drive into the façade of the Eyebeam Center for Art and Technology in the Chelsea section of New York City, with the center’s consent of course. On that USB is Street Show: The Things Between Us, a collection of 22 works by new media and Internet artists that reflect on the idea of “transfer.” Anyone with a laptop and USB port can hook up and access the files and become a co-curator of this virtual art exhibition. The exhibit/experiment is wonderfully unpredictable and is a version of Bartholl’s Dead Drops. Dead Drops are spots throughout the world, where USB flash drives with art files have been ‘dropped’ (installed) into locations ranging from train stations to street corners. You can make your own by following Aram Bartholl’s how-to instructions. One of the most endearing things about Bartholl’s art events is that he provides step-by-step instructions to the general public, so that anyone can stage a digital art happening.

Aram Bartholl, un genio y revolucionario en el mundo de arte y tecnología acaba de pegar una llave de memoria USB al edificio Eyebeam Center for Art and Technology en el barrio Chelsea en Manhattan. Y lo hizó con el permiso del centro. La llave lleva una exposición de arte digital, 22 obras de artistas de new media y de arte de la red, que se llama Street Show: The Things Between Us (espectáculo de la calle: las cosas entre nosotros). Todas las obras intentan a definir el verbo “trasladar.” Cualquier persona con un portátil y un puerto USB se puede acceder a los archivos y así se puede participar en la expo como un comisario(a).
La expo/experimento es divertido e imprevisible. Es una versión de otro proyecto que ha creado Bartholl, Dead Drops. Dead Drops son sitios donde se encuentra llaves de memoria USB rellenos de obras de arte digital. Puede ser que una llave está en una estación de tren o en una esquina de la calle. Y los Dead Drops existen por todo el mundo. También se puede crear tu propio Dead Drop, solo hay que seguir las instrucciónes que Bartholl ha colgado en la web. El encanto que tienen los eventos de Bartholl es que cualquier person, con las instrucciónes que el da por Internet, se puede hacer su propia y única exposición de arte digital.
